Departure from the hotel to visit the most important theatre in Buenos Aires . The Colon Theatre is considered to be one of the 5 best opera houses in the world due to its excellent acoustic. Its construction began in 1890 under the project of the engineer Tamburini and was finished  by the architects Victor Meano,  and finally by Julio Dormal. All of them joined in its design very different styles such as the Attic-Greek, that predominates in the exteriors, and -as Victor Meano once said- “the general characteristics of the Italian Renaissance, the good distribution and the solidity of the German architecture; and the grace, variety and bizarre ornamentation of the French architecture”, finally producing a perfect example of the 19th century Eclectic style.

It was inaugurated on May 25th  1908 with the performance of  “Aida”, Giuseppe Verdi´s opera, after being under construction for almost 20 years.

You will enter through the main entrance, situated on Libertad street, towards the great Hal l that will amaze you with the richness of its marbles and the luminosity of its vitreaux. You will then visit the Show Hal l, to admire its rich and harmonious decoration, its gorgeous chandelier, the dome, painted by Raúl Soldi, an important Argentine plastic artist; and the stage with its splendid embroidered curtain. This hall has a capacity  for 3,000 spectators, distributed in stalls, boxes and other four levels called “cazuela”, “tertulia”, “galería” and “paraíso”.

The visit will continue with the Foyer or Gallery of Busts, with the effigies of great composers, that leads to the White Hal l, in French Renaissance style, that is the pre-lounge to the official box, used often for formal meetings, conferences and banquets. From there, walking along a greatly lit wide gallery, you will get to the Golden Hal l, with its rich decoration in the most pure French style, which imitates the Grand Foyer of the Opera of Paris because of  the guilt ornaments, the carved columns and the vitreaux. Free of charge concerts of chamber music, conferences and exhibitions are constantly held there.

Finally, you will see the workshops, that occupy 4 basements, out of which is important to highlight the tailor's, the wigmaker's and the scenography's.
It is also worth mentioning that the Colón Theatre has its own Ballet and Dance School , and that is seat of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires.
