Chile Travel

Santiago: Founded in 1541, the capital city of Santiago offers
plenty to do. Here, the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino is a Chile travel
standard, providing a look at native pottery and other artifacts in a building
that was once a customs house. No Chile travel plans would be complete without
a few souvenirs, and Santiago offers a wide array of colorful crafts markets with
jewelry, woolen items, and other local specialties. Be sure to put a few wine
bars or even a wine tour on your Chile travel itinerary; Chile is one of the
world's leading producers of wines. While in Santiago, make Parque
Metropolitano part of your Chile travel plans. Also known as Cerro San
Cristobal, it's the city's biggest park and offers great views of Santiago.
Vina Del Mar / Valparaiso: A popular hangout for poet Pablo Neruda, Valparaíso is
chock-a-block with crooked streets, stone stairways and unique architecture,
making it a darling of South America tour veterans. Its homey, devil-may-care
attitude stands in stark contrast to the prim beach town of Vina del Mar
located not far away. Stately, manicured parks have earned Vina del Mar its
nickname of “Garden City,” and its known as a popular beach locale for locals
and Chile travel enthusiasts alike.
Valle Nevado / Portillo: If you're visiting a country known for its snowy mountain
range, why not make skiing part of your plans? Chile travel offers lots of
opportunities to ski and to stay in some pretty swanky resorts. Check out Villa
Nevado located in the El Plomo foothills in the heart of Chile, or travel to
Portillo, located near the border of Argentina and another major destination
for skiers who travel to Chile.
Atacama Desert: With the ocean on one side and the Andes on the other,
the Atacama desert offers plenty of unique experiences – and breath-taking
vistas – for people who make it a part of their Chile travel plans. Salt
plains, volcanoes, cactus – it's harsh, but beautiful at the same time. Make
the tiny town of San Pedro part of your Chile travel plans; it's a great place
to recharge during your desert explorations. And while you're in Atacama, plan
to view the sunset at the Valle de la Lune, where the landscape's moon-like
features come starkly into view as the sun sets. Watch volcanic peaks turn
beautiful shades of pinks and purples. It's a staple of many South America
tours.
Easter Island: Perhaps the most popular spot for Chile travel is Easter
Island, and of course, travel to Chile would be incomplete without getting a
close-up view of the giant Moai statues. But that's not all the island offers;
hiking, snorkeling, diving, and horseback riding are popular attractions for
many South America tours, and of course, the white sand beaches provide a great
spot to relax.
Lake District: When you leave Santiago, head south to the lake towns of
Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas. The latter is especially picturesque, flanked by
two volcanoes and featuring architecture inspired by its German heritage, if
your Chile travel plans include kayaking, fishing or even canyoning, either of
these two destinations can serve as home bases.
Patagonia: Known for its rugged frontier appeal, travel to Chile
wouldn't be complete without a visit to Patagonia. The area is dominated by
peaks, plains and stark seascapes, punctuated by the soaring summits of Torres
del Paine, a major attraction of Chile travel surrounded by a national park.
Hike the trails and see the uniquely beautiful landscapes as well as native
wildlife. Located nearby, Puerto Natales is the southern terminus of South
America cruises along the Chilean fjords; Punta Arenas, the northern terminus,
offers a mix of rugged charms and former grandeur, and provides plenty of
options for Chile travel fun.
